How to measure ring size

Ready to purchase a ring but not sure on your partner’s ring size? Or purchasing for yourself and not sure of your size? Discover our top recommendations below on how to size a ring for the perfect fit.

HOW DO I FIND A RING SIZE?

The quickest and easiest solution is to download our free Ring Sizing Chart to find out which size fits you or your loved one. You can either cut out the ring sizer and wrap it around the finger you are measuring, or if you have an existing ring that fits perfectly you can check which size it is with the examples on the chart. To get the best results from the ring size chart, make sure you double check the scale measurement with a ruler or tape measure to ensure the most accurate fit. If you are having trouble finding the right size, you can contact our friendly Concierge who will be able to provide expert advice in finding your perfect ring size fit.

How tight should a ring be?

Ideally, a ring that fits properly should slide over your knuckle without too much difficulty. It should fit snugly on your finger without feeling too tight, and when removing the ring you should feel a little bit of resistance but still easily passing over the knuckle.

DO FINGER SIZES CHANGE?

Finger size can vary during the day, and seasonally depending on humidity and temperature or after exercise. If you are measuring yourself its recommended to do so later in the day when it’s likely to be the largest. Finger sizes tend to be larger on the dominant hand, so it is better to measure the exact finger you are planning to wear your ring on.

CAN I GET A RING SIZED IN PERSON?

Yes you absolutely can. Our sales consultants are trained with expert knowledge to assess your ring size for the perfect fit. If you are unable to get to a store in person, our concierge can assist with helping you determine the best ring size to fit you.

Can I buy a ring and size it later?

Resizing is possible to varying extents depending on the design of the ring chosen. If the setting is complex or there are a lot of diamonds in the band, then the ring will have a lower tolerance to resize as this could compromise the setting. Your Gerard McCabe consultant or our online Concierge will be able to advise which styles can or cannot be resized. Classic rings with no diamonds in the band have the most ability to be resized.

I’m proposing and I want the ring to be a surprise. What should I do?

If you haven’t been able to find your partner’s ring size and are wanting your proposal to be a surprise, don’t fret. You can purchase a Gerard McCabe ring for your proposal, and once you’ve popped the question, your fiancée can return to us in store or get in touch with our Concierge about having the ring resized to their perfect fit.
